1. Select a slide which has placeholders. Then click on the icon the arrow is pointing to (see the diagram below). It will bring up the ‘Insert Chart’ dialog box.

2. In the diagram below you will see what has happened when we clicked the chart icon on the slide. The ‘Insert Chart’ dialog box appeared on the screen. It is divided into 2 columns. The column on the left contains the Chart Categories. The Column on the right contains the chart templates in each category. 

Click on the category you want to use. It will display the chart templates associated with that particular category. Select the template you want to use by clicking on it. Then click the ‘OK’ button on the bottom of the ‘insert chart’ dialog box.

3. When you click on the chart icon on your slide (as we did) you will also get an Excel document opening up on the right of your slide with your chart. This Excel document contains the data in your chart. You can enter or edit the values in each cell in the Excel document with your own data and press the ‘Enter’ key on your computer keyboard, and you will instantly see your chart in Powerpoint change to reflect the changes you have made.
