How to Develop Unwavering Persistence

Alex Haley, author of the bestselling book and TV miniseries: ‘Roots’, received a rejection letter every week for 4 consecutive years, before he finally got a publisher to publish his book. Do you know how many rejection letters that was?

Multiply 52 by 4 and you’ll get 208 rejections.

How long does it take before you give up on a project, idea, or dream?

Thomas Edison tried 10,000 times before he got the first practical and incandescent lamp to work. As a result, the light bulb you use in your home was born.

How many times have you tried to get something to work and gave up when it did not: 2, 5, 10, 15, or 40 times?

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to Success before they gave up.”

Thomas A. Edison

If you are a person who gives up easily, read the following poem and glean inspiration from it.

Stick to it

When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile but you have to sigh

When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns
As everyone of us sometimes learns
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man
Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor’s cup
And he learned too late when the night came down
How close he was to the golden crown

Success is failure turned inside out
the silver tint of the clouds of doubt.

And you never can tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems afar

So stick to the fight when you are hardest hit
it’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
