Close a Document

When are done working with a document and you want to close it, to do so:

  • Click the ‘File Tab’ on the ribbon – The backstage view will appear
  • Scroll down to word ‘Close’ and click on it. See the diagram below.




  • Word will close the document for you. If you had other Word documents opened, Word displays the last document you had used. If you had no other document opened then you will see a blank Word window.

If you want to close the Microsoft Word Program itself – Go to the Red Box with the ‘X’ in it located at the top right-hand corner of your Microsoft Word Screen and click on it. When you do, the Microsoft Word Program will close. See the diagram above.
